The History of Our Richmond Preschool and Childcare Centre
The story of Kids Only Preschool began with Kathy Spice, who completed her Diploma in Children’s Services in 1994 before beginning her career in childcare shortly after. Within just six months of working in a childcare centre, Kathy was promoted to Director, highlighting her dedication and natural leadership within the industry. In July 2001, Kathy and her family purchased an old house in Richmond and transformed it into the childcare centre families know and trust today.
The renovations were completed entirely by the family themselves, with their hard work and passion built into every part of the centre. In January 2002, Kids Only Preschool welcomed its first 12 enrolments, and within three months the centre had reached full capacity.
Family Support Through the Years
Family has always been at the heart of Kids Only Preschool. In the early years, Kathy’s mother Meg worked in the kitchen, while Kathy’s sister Elizabeth supported the centre part-time as she completed her Early Childhood Degree.
Continuing A Family Legacy of Childcare in Hawkesbury
Today, the family legacy continues with Elizabeth now managing the centre and helping guide the next generation of educators. Kathy’s daughters, Lillian and Harriet, have both earned their diplomas and now work within the centre while completing their Early Childhood Degrees. This strong family involvement allows us to maintain the welcoming and supportive environment families have valued for over two decades.
